Visva Bharati student injured in clash over posters

A student was reportedly injured after a clash broke out between two groups of students at Visva-Bharati, a Central University and an institution of national importance.
Abhranil Saha, the injured student, was taken to a local hospital on Thursday and was admitted there. According to a source, a group of student tried to remember martyr Bhagat Singh by pasting his images and posters on the wall of a bank.

But some other group of students protested against their act. They alleged that Singh's posters would only spread visual pollution in the university area and said that the posters would not be allowed there.
They involved in a tiff and later it turned out to a face-to-face fighting.

Meanwhile, the university authorities cleared that the incident of clash took place outside the university premises.

"Yes, I have heard that some students engaged in a fight over pasting some political posters. But the people of that building protested against their act. I have been informed that those groups of students were
politically motivated," said Professor Swapan Kumar Datta, the Vice-Chancellor of Visva-Bharati to Millennium Post.

"We have received letters of complaint from both the groups. An inquiry committee will be formed. The registrar of the university will give me the report. I want to know that how this problem has cropped up at Visva-Bharati," the Vice-Chancellor further said.

"The university will never support affixing posters on its wall. Political posters will not be allowed here for sure. This is March and many cultural programmes are going on at the campus. We allow posters of only those programmes," the Vice-Chancellor added.

The Vice-Chancellor said, he would wait for the report from the Registrar. The issue was not only affixing posters of Bhagat Singh but that the posters were depicting a certain political view. "I have been informed that some students painted a wall of the university. This type of activities will not be tolerated," added the V-C.

Meanwhile, a group of students reached the local police station to lodge an FIR. "I am not here to punish the students. I have advised them to solve the matter peacefully and concentrate on their studies," the Vice-Chancellor concluded.
