Various transport-related services, including car registration, to be made available online: Min

Kolkata: The state transport minister Snehasis Chakraborty on Saturday said that several services related to the transport like learner's driving license and car registration, amongst other services will now be available online.

"There have been many changes during Mamata Banerjee's government. In the coming days, we are going to provide a more transparent transportation system. E-vehicles are being arranged. We have already launched many e-buses," Chakraborty said.

Services like change of vehicle ownership name, renewal of trade license, vehicle registration certificate, changing of vehicle number, completion of car loan payment; duplicate registration certificate and special permit will be

made online.

According to the state transport minister, adoption of online medium will help the people to save time and the process will become hassle free. In cases of inability to access these provisions online, the option of going to the office in person will also be made available.

Apart from this, the minister also spoke about the persistent issue of fare increase in the near future because of the rising fuel price. He said that there is no talk of increasing the fare yet. However, the increase in fuel prices has created a pressure situation.

The minister said that the aim and effort to bring in the alternative resources like CNG and electric vehicles. "The price of CNG is also increasing. It is a big challenge for us," he said.

The minister also said that 1000 electric vehicles will be introduced by a private company. The state department is aiming at creating more charging points as the demand for e-vehicles go up.
