Unidentified woman's body found, murder suspected

Mystery shrouds the death of an unidentified woman whose body with several injury marks was found beside Bagjola canal at Cossipore near Bhangar in South 24 Parganas on Saturday early morning.
Police said that the body of the woman was first seen by some local people who were heading for their work early in the morning. They informed the police. Policemen from the local police station went to the spot and sent the body for an autopsy.
The police have also recovered a sickle from beside the body and suspect that it is the weapon with which she was killed.
A police officer said that the exact reason behind her death can only be ascertained after receiving the post-mortem report but the injury marks on her body suggests she was hacked to death.
Moreover, it doesn't seem that she was killed here. The police are suspecting that the accused had killed the woman somewhere else and later dumped the body there.
The police are, however, sure that the woman is not a local resident. "We are trying to identify the woman first which is quite essential for the investigation and taking necessary steps in this connection," the police officer said.
It may be mentioned that the place where the body was found is poorly illuminated and hardly people use the road after sunset. As a result, the chances of crimes taking place is quite high. A similar incident had taken place at the same spot two years ago.
