Unidentified miscreant snatches valuables from elderly woman
Kolkata: A miscreant snatched gold ornaments from an 80-year-old woman on early Wednesday morning when she was taking a stroll near her residence at Parnashree.
The incident took place on Gopal Mishra road at around 5.30 am when she was walking along the road.
The victim has later lodged a complaint at the local police station on the basis of which a detailed probe has been initiated.
The incident has triggered tension in the locality as many others regularly take a stroll in the morning. Others might fall victims to similar incidents, locals said.
Police said Rekha Rani Basu, a local resident, left her home at around 5 am and was taking a stroll along the road. All of a sudden, an unidentified miscreant pushed her and snatched her gold bangle and chain from the
elderly woman.
As the woman tried shouting, the accused covered her mouth with a cloth he was carrying.
However, locals alerted by the screams, rushed to the spot.
The accused youth immediately fled the spot. Locals helped the woman and accompanied her home.
The woman narrated the matter to her sons, who went to the local police station and registered a complaint.
She informed that the accused youth came on foot and pounced on her from behind.
She received injuries when he snatched her valuables.
Police are examining the CCTV footages to identify the accused.
According to the preliminary investigation, they suspect that the accused might have been some local snatcher. Raids are being conducted to
nab the culprit.
