Under-trial prisoner admitted to RG Kar caught while trying to flee
Kolkata: An under-trial prisoner, who was undergoing treatment in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, attempted to escape the hospital on late Tuesday evening but the police personnel posted inside the hospital campus managed to get hold of the accused. The incident created a chaos inside the hospital.
It was learnt that Niraj Sahu (20) fell ill after consuming bleaching powder at Dum Dum Central Correctional Home on Tuesday. He was immediately rushed to RG Kar Medical College
and Hospital.
Police said Sahu got up from his bed in the hospital at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday and went to the bathroom.
He broke the window of the bathroom situated on the fifth floor of the hospital building. He was getting down with the help of a rain pipe.
Locals found him and drew the attention of the on duty police men by shouting. The policemen deployed inside the hospital campus rushed to the spot. On seeing the policemen on the ground, the under-trial prisoner jumped on the balcony of the first floor and took shelter inside a room.
The policemen went to the first floor and conducted a thorough search on the first floor and finally caught him.
Many have raised questions on how an under-trial prisoner could attempt an escape by breaking open the window of the toilet.
It was learnt that there was a security personnel deployed outside the room of the patient but he had no clue
about the incident.
Police officers from the Tala police station reached the spot and started a probe in this regard.
They are investigating of there was any negligence. They are also investigating if there was any security lapse inside the hospital which might have helped the under-trial prisoner to
attempt an escape.
