Two youths killed as bikes collide head-on at Amdanga
Kolkata: Two youths were killed in a fatal road accident, when the motorcycles they were riding collided head-on with each other on Bira Road near Amdanga in North 24-Parganas. Some local people staged a demonstration at the spot, protesting against the menace of reckless riding, causing chaos on the busy road on Friday morning.
The motorcyclists have been identified as Manohar Hossain (23) and Saddam Hossain (24). Both the victims died at the spot after receiving serious head injuries. None of the youths were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained by the district police. The local people told the police that both the victims were riding their motorcycles at a high speed when they hit each other.
According to the police, Saddam was heading towards Amdanga on his motorcycle, when he lost control over the bike and hit Manohar. Both the motorcycles were badly damaged in the incident. The circumstantial evidences suggest that both the motorcycles were running at top speed.
The incident caused traffic jam in the locality for nearly half an hour in the morning. Police officers reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The local people staged a demonstration on Bira Road
in front of the police. They alleged that there is no surveillance in the area, as a result of which the vehicles plying through the area often flout traffic norms.
The police officers assured the agitating people that they would ensure surveillance in the area, following which the demonstration was lifted.
Police have started a probe to ascertain how the accident took place. The local people are also being interrogated. The bodies were sent to
Barasat District Hospital for postmortem.
