Two unnatural deaths reported in city
Kolkata: Two unnatural deaths were reported from the city on Friday. The body of a woman was recovered from a pond adjacent to an apartment at Garcha area in Gariahat, while a man was found dead on the bed of his room at Parnasree in Behala.
According to police sources, local people spotted the body of the woman floating in the pond at the backside of a multi-storeyed building at Garcha 1st Lane at around 8 am in the morning and informed them. The body was fished out and sent for postmortem. There were some injury marks in the body of the woman, who has not been identified as yet.
The local residents have informed the police that the middle-aged woman was an outsider. "We have circulated her photograph in all the police stations in the city, as well as in the neighbouring districts for identification," a senior police officer said. The homicide wing of the detective department of Kolkata Police also visited the spot in the morning.
"We are not sure whether there is any foul play involved in the death of the woman. We are awaiting the postmortem report," an officer from the homicide wing said.
Meanwhile, in another case of unnatural death, a person was found lying on the bed of his rented room at Bangasree Pally under Parnasree police station area in Behala. The man, identified as Rajesh Ganguly (30), used to work in a beverage company at Taratala. A resident of Bagnan in Howrah district, he was living in the room on rent since 2012.
According to police sources, some of his neighbours had spotted Rajesh brushing his teeth near the water tap in front of his residence, at around 7 am in the morning. After that he went inside his room but did not come out for at least two hours. One of his family members who lives nearby, had called him up at around 10 am and after receiving no response, he had called up one of his neighbours.
The person went and knocked at the door, which was not bolted from inside. After his repeated knocks went unanswered, he opened the door to find Rajesh lying motionless on the bed. The police were informed, who rushed him to Vidyasagar State General Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
"We have sent the body for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death. There were no injury marks on the body," an officer of Parnasree police station said.
