Two TMC workers killed in separate incidents

Kolkata: Two Trinamool Congress workers have been killed in South 24-Parganas and Murshidabad in the past 24 hours. The police have started investigation but no one has been arrested yet.

In Murshidabad, Trinamool Youth Congress leader Nazimul Sheikh was killed by unknown miscreants at around 10.30 am on Monday.

Partha Chatterjee, Trinamool Congress secretary general, said that he would take up the matter with All India Trinamool Youth Congress president Abhishek Banerjee. He assured that the criminals would not be spared and stern action would be taken against them.

Eyewitnesses said that around 10.30 am, four unidentified youths accosted Sheikh at Niyallispara Ghat. They fired at him from a point blank range and left the spot on two motorcycles.

The incident sparked panic in the area and the people who were present during the incident, ran for safety. The shopkeepers downed their shutters as well.

After the miscreants had left, local people took Nazimul, who was bleeding profusely, to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A large contingent of police personnel reached the spot and began investigation. No one has been arrested so far in this connection. Sheikh was the anchal president of Niyallispara Ghat area.

In another incident, Raju Naskar, a Trinamool Congress youth worker, was killed by unknown criminals at Canning in South 24-Parganas on Sunday night. The criminals fired at him from behind. When taken to hospital, he was pronounced brought dead.

Shaukat Molla, local Trinamool Congress leader, said a family feud had led to the murder of Naskar. He said there was no infighting in the area.
