Two patients test H1N1 flu positive in city

Kolkata: Two patients who were admitted to a private hospital a few days ago have been tested positive with H1N1 flu. They have been kept under close monitoring at the hospital.

It has been learnt from hospital sources that Narayanan Krishnamurthi, an 81-year-old male patient who is a resident of Salt Lake, was taken to the hospital on June 13 with flu like symptoms. He subsequently tested positive with H1N1 flu.

Another patient identified as Ellora Chaudhuri has also been detected with H1N1 infection. She is also a resident of Salt Lake. She was admitted to the private hospital on June 14. It may be mentioned here that Tapan Kumar Karmakar, a 71-year-old man suffering from swine flu died at the private hospital on June 19. He was admitted to the hospital on June 14. The patient had died due to H1N1 pneumonia leading to septic shock, which eventually resulted in multi-organ failure.

It can be stated here that earlier this year, a few cases of H1N1 were reported in the city and its adjoining areas, which subsided later. Some patients were recently admitted to various hospitals with influenza like symptoms, fever, cough, sore throat, muscle pain, nausea and headache.

The doctors have, however, said that there is nothing to worry about as people fall ill during this time of the year due to seasonal change.
