Two more arrested for murder of TMC leader

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested two more persons from Belgharia in North 24 Parganas on Sunday in connection with the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Dulal Biswas.
Dulal, pradhan of Bagula gram panchayat in Nadia, was shot dead inside an office of Trinamool Congress on April 16. Around 10 to 12 miscreants allegedly backed by BJP and CPI(M) had rushed into the party's office and opened fire at him. Local people had demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
Police suspected that he was killed for protesting against various illegal activities in the area.
An officer of the CID said that Kartik Biswas and Biswajit Biswas were arrested on Sunday in this connection. With their arrest, the total number of people caught in this connection went up to seven.
Acting on a tip-off, a team comprising CID officers conducted a raid in a hideout of the accused at Belgharia and arrested them.
The victim's son was standing just outside the party's office when the murder had taken place. He told the police that the accused who had attacked his father were goons backed by BJP and CPI(M). He had also helped the police to identify the accused. Subsequently, the police initiated a search and finally arrested the duo from Belgharia.
A police officer said that there are some more persons who were involved and are still at large.
The CID is taking all necessary steps to arrest them. The arrest of the duo would help the police get information about the others who are still absconding.
The police are also trying to ascertain where the accused held a meeting a day before the incident to chalk out the entire plan of killing Dulal.
Both of the accused were produced before the Ranaghat Court and were remanded to judicial custody of one day.
