Kolkata: In a unique initiative, two minor girls from the city with cooperation from their parents are all set to launch a reader's zone to provide free access to education for children.
They are coming up with Reader's Planet on Wednesday, a one-of-a kind reader's zone in Kolkata that will be spanning across a 300 sq ft area and is located in the heart of the city at Dover Road in Ballygunge, very close to St Lawrence School.
12-year-old Manaswi Dugar and her younger sister 9-year-old Suhasini Dugar, both students from Sushila Birla School in the city, have come up with a unique idea to support reading and education for all. There will not be any fee for availing the services.
The objective behind this initiative by the two sisters is to promote the joy of reading and spread the importance of knowledge among other children.
"We have a collection of over 1,000 books in our residence on varied subjects. Suhasini had initially thought that she would distribute these books among children. But if that is done then a child will get three or four books and the matter will end there. Then we decided to do it in this way as this will provide the opportunity to more and more students to read these books," said Sheetal Dugar, the mother of the two sisters.
The Reader's Planet will have different sections with books on Science, History, Geography, English Stories, General Knowledge and Value Education to name a few, offering a vast platform for getting and sharing knowledge from under one roof.
The reader's zone will remain open from Monday to Saturday, from 11 am to 7 pm.
