Two-member team to visit S Dinajpur
Balurghat: A two-member state team will inspect sites for the proposed university in South Dinajpur on Thursday, additional district magistrate of South Dinajpur, Krittibas Nayak said on Wednesday.
The members are Siladitya Basu Roy Chaudhury, special secretary, department of Higher Education and Professor Subha Shankar Sarkar-Vice-Chancellor of Netaji Subhas Open University.
Nayak said the delegates will inspect the suitable sites covering both Balurghat and Gangarampur subdivisions separately, where the proposed university campus can be built up and submit a feasibility report to the state government.
According to an official source, the team will visit two places include Mahinagar Agriculture Training Centre located on the outskirts of Balurghat and a vast land located adjacent to Block Agriculture Office in Gangarampur.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her tour to South Dinajpur on February 21, had announced setting up of a separate university while addressing a rally in Gangarampur. It was a longstanding demand of the locals.
Balurghat MP and Trinamool leader Arpita Ghosh and minister of state for North Bengal Development, Bachhu Hansda said the new university may be come up in and around Balurghat town, while district Trinamool president Biplab Mitra has pleaded for Gangarampur.
