Two killed, one injured as bus hits bike on Sealdah flyover
Kolkata: Two persons were killed and another was injured after a bus hit them on Sealdah flyover on Sunday night. The driver of the offending bus managed to flee immediately after the accident. Police later seized the bus and started a search to nab the driver.
According to sources, on Sunday evening one Abdul Samad (50), a resident of Bowbazar, had gone to Entally to attend an invitation. After attending the invitation at around 8 pm, he was riding his bike towards Rajabazar with his daughter Nikhat Ara (22) and wife Noor Jahan Begum (44) on the pillion seat.
When he was about to cross the intersection of M G Road and Sealdah flyover, a private bus from route number 71 (Howrah-Salt Lake) hit the bike head-on.
Other vehicle drivers claimed that the driver was driving the bus dangerously. He took a right turn violating the signal and knocked down Samad's bike.
Immediately, police and locals rushed the three injured to NRS Medical College and Hospital, where Samad and Ara were declared brought dead. Both of them had suffered multiple major injuries.
Begum has sustained injury on her right leg and is still undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Police have informed that all of them were wearing helmets.
Locals alleged that buses from routes 71, 72 and Sealdah-Howrah Maidan compete with each other every day. They even block the main carriageway after reaching M G Road by standing there for a long time. When any other bus from the three routes arrives, the drivers try to overtake each other dangerously.
