Two killed, four injured in road accident on NH-34

Balurghat: Two persons were killed and four others seriously injured in a road accident on Tuesday night. The mishap took place on NH-34 in Marnai's Itahar block in North Dinajpur.

The deceased were identified as Sufal Murmu and Somnath Singha. Police said they were the residents of Patan village at Harirampur block of South Dinajpur. The injured persons are admitted to Raiganj super-specialty hospital.

Police said a team of six persons were returning to Patan in a motor van on Tuesday night. On the way to Marnai, the motor van's engine developed a snag. Suddenly, a police van coming from Malda side hit the victims' vehicle and as it was at an abnormal high speed, it left two dead on the spot and four injured. An eyewitness said: "Perhaps the driver of the police van had lost control over the vehicle and collided with the motor van."

Police from Itahar police station reached the spot after being intimated by the locals.
