Two killed as bike hits roadside railing

Kolkata: Two persons were killed in a road accident in which their motorcycle hit a roadside railing.

The incident took place on Sunday on Jessore Road and the duo succumbed to their injuries on Monday.

Police said the victims were residents of the Airport area and the accident took place when they were heading to a friend's house at around 10.30 pm.

Local people informed the police, following which they took them to a hospital.

Both Amlan Dey (22) and Avijit Saha (32) were taken to Barasat Hospital, with severe injuries all over their bodies. Later, they were shifted to a private hospital at Barasat in North 24-Parganas, where they succumbed to their injuries on Monday.

Police came to know that the motorcycle was moving at a high speed and it hit the railing as the rider lost control over the bike after taking a sharp turn.

The incident has happened at a time when the state government has taken necessary measures to create awareness among people to follow traffic norms.

that the state government has taken all necessary measures to check accidents on Jessore Road.

Road medians have been installed on a long stretch and it has helped in bringing down the number of accidents on the road. Road signs have also been installed on both sides.

It may be recalled that a 22-year-old youth, Subhrojit Singha, was killed in a bike accident at Charu Market on Sunday.

He was a resident of Bakulbagan Road and was riding the bike with Manojit Nandan sitting on the pillion seat.

Manojit was injured in the accident, which took place when four bikes were racing.
