Two held for Nimta youth death

Kolkata: A youth was shot dead at Nimta in North 24-Parganas on Sunday night. Two persons, including the youth's cousin have been arrested.

According to sources, the deceased youth identified as Abhijit Barui (22) of Ambikanagar in Nimta used play as a freelance footballer.

On Sunday night, he returned home and went to have a leisure time with local youths in front of a temple at his locality.

When he reached there, he saw his cousin Surajit Barui and few others consuming alcohol and one of them was showing a one shoter. They were handing over the gun to one another.

When the gun reached Surajit, all of a sudden a bullet was fired accidentally and it hit Abhijit on his chest. As soon as the bullet penetrated Abhijit's chest from close range, he fell down on the ground and became unconscious. Seeing his condition, a few from the group fled.

Hearing gun fire, locals ran to the temple and saw Abhijit lying in a pool of blood. Immediately, Surajit along with other locals Abhijit was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Later, police arrested Surajit and one of his friends. Probe is on to detect any foul play. Police are trying to know who had brought the one shoter there.
