Two held for cheating elderly
Kolkata: Two persons were arrested by personnel of Bidhannagar Cyber Crime police station on Thursday for allegedly duping a senior citizen. They had promised the elderly man that they would help him to get his money from an expired insurance policy.
The complainant Syed Rezaul Karim of Sreerampore in Hooghly lodged a complaint in July against a firm Deal Money Distribution and Advisory Services Private Limited.
Karim alleged that he had got a call from a woman, who is an employee of the company, telling him that an insurance policy, which was issued on Karim's son's name, had expired. However, they can arrange for the withdrawal of the whole maturity amount.
Karim agreed, the caller asked him to reach their office in Sector V. There he was asked to buy some bonds after which they said they would help him with the insurance matter.
But Karim was forced to pay 2.53 lakh on different heads like GST, Income Tax and others. Later, when Karim understood that he has been duped, he lodged the complaint. On Thursday, the police nabbed two accused persons identified as Avijit Dey and Prodip Kumar Roy, who were portfolio holders of the company.
