Two held for changing expiry dates of medicines and selling them

Police have arrested a printing press owner and a wholesaler of medicine for their alleged involvement in selling expired medicines by changing the expiry dates mentioned on the packets of the medicines.
Acting in a tip-off, the senior officials of the Drug Control Board and police raided the printing press on Canning Street owned by Pawan Jhunjhunwala where the expiry dates on the packets of each strip was removed with the help of a chemical by the accused.
In the course of investigation, police came to know about the involvement of Dinesh Sarogi, a wholesaler of medicine who used to send the expired drugs to the former's printing press. The owner of the printing press used to remove the dates mentioned on the packets of various drugs by using a chemical.
Then he would inscribe a new date on the packets without changing the medicine. Later, he used to send back the medicine to Sarogi who used to sell them in the market.
Police also came to know that the accused wholesaler whose shop is situated on GT Road used to sell various valuable medicines including some antibiotics. It was learnt that the accused also used to change the dates of various injections.
As per the preliminary investigation, police suspect that many more persons were involved in the incident. Police are interrogating the accused to know if some other people are involved in the incident.
Local people on Canning Street said that they did not have a slightest of idea on how such a racket had been running from the shop.
They said that the accused used to claim that he also runs a courier business from the printing press. But the local residents never suspected that they were involved in such an incident.
Senior officials of the Drug Control Board have collected samples from the accused and also started a probe in this regard.
Police are also interrogating the local residents in this regard. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.
