Two held for assaulting OC in northern part of city

Kolkata: Two youths were arrested for assaulting the officer-in-charge of a phari on the northern suburbs of the city on Tuesday night.

The injured OC of Ghughudanga phari, Shibcharan Mondol, was taken to a hospital where he was treated. The youths were handed over to Dum Dum police.

The trouble began after Mondol found out that one of the youths, who he was interrogating, was recording the interaction on a mobile phone.

He first requested him not to record the interaction and then took away the cell phone.

Infuriated over the incident, the youth started beating up Mondol. He pushed him from the chair and beat him up mercilessly. Mondol bled profusely through his nose. He raised an alarm but there was no policemen inside the phari. Alerted by his screams for help, two civic volunteers, who were on duty outside the phari, nabbed the youths when they came out of the police station.

The youth, who was being interrogated by the OC on Tuesday night, got involved in a clash with another group of students, nearly two months ago. A case was registered against him and the OC had summoned him in connection with the case. The youth had arrived at the police phari with his elder brother.

In another incident, a youth beat up a traffic constable inside the Birbhum Court premises on Wednesday afternoon. The youth was stopped by the constable for riding a motor cycle without a helmet.
