Two die, 2 suffer injuries in 3 road mishaps
Kolkata: Two persons were killed and two suffered injuries in three separate road accidents across the city on Thursday. In these accidents, the offending vehicles were buses.
According to police reports, on Thursday around 10:25 am, a bus from route number 240 (Bagbazar-Jodhpur Park) was moving towards Ananda Palit in Entally. Just before approaching the CIT Road and Ananda Palit crossing, driver somehow lost control over the bus and the bus went on the North bound lane at the crossing. As a result, it ran over two pedestrians and hit a van rickshaw puller.
One injured pedestrian identified as Md Selim (35) of Convent Lane was rushed to Chittaranjan National Medical College (CNMC) and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The other pedestrian and the van rickshaw puller identified as Atanu Ghosh of Tarakeswar and Guddu Shaw of Entally, respectively were rushed to the NRS Medical College and Hospital. The police detained the bus along with its driver and registered a case.
In another incident on Thursday around 8 am, a passenger of a mini bus from Howrah–Panchannagram route lost control while boarding the bus at the Gobinda Khatik Road crossing on Park Circus Connector.
It is alleged that before the passenger identified as Md Golam could climb up to the footboard, driver started driving the bus. Due to the sudden start of the bus, Golam fell on the road.
He was immediately rushed to the CNMC where he succumbed to his injuries. With the help from the local residents, police detained the bus and nabbed the driver.
Apart from the two accidents, a pedestrian identified as Debashis Das of Uluberia was hit by a speeding mini bus near Shyambazar metro station on Bhupen Bose Avenue.
The bus driver escaped the spot after the incident. Das was rushed to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital with multiple injuries. He was later shifted to a private hospital at Mukundapur where he is undergoing treatment.
