Two arrested for selling fake Railway e-tickets

Kolkata: Police have arrested two persons including a woman for their alleged involvement in selling fake railway e-tickets.

The accused identified as Biswajit Sinha and Munmun Rout were IRCTC agents who had been in the business of duping people for quite sometime.

It was learnt that the duo had taken around a few lakh rupees from people against the issuance of fake e-tickets. They had opened more than 100 fake accounts which they used for hacking the

railway website.

According to the preliminary investigation, the officers suspect that they also used to sell fake Tatkal tickets. The matter came to notice of the senior railway officials following which the railway police has started a probe in this regard.

The investigating officers came to know the names of the two accused after investigation.

They were keeping a tab on the duo for the past few weeks.

When they gathered enough evidence against them, police finally arrested the duo on Monday.

A team of railway police also raided a travel agency office in Golkuarchalk area in East Midnapore and seized two computers, one printer, 3 mobile phones and hard cash around Rs 2 lakh. As many as 125 fake tickets of around Rs 3.5 lakh were also seized from the office.

The investigating officers suspect that the accused had gathered a total of Rs 15 lakh by duping people over selling fake tickets since

January this year.

Police have sealed the office of the travel agency in the district. Preliminary investigation suggests that they might be part of a racket that had been operating from the state.

Police are trying to know the names of other accused who are involved in the incident. According to a senior officer of the railway police, they used to use a special software to hack the railway website. A detailed probe has been initiated.
