Tusker tramples man to death at Naxalbari

Darjeeling: A 50-year-old man was trampled to death on Tuesday morning at Naxalbari Block in Darjeeling district, sparking protests from the local residents. The Forest department has issued helpline numbers for such emergencies.
Buddha Lohar of Buragunj in the Naxalbari block had gone to the Tukriajhar forest to collect firewood on Tuesday morning, where he was trampled to death by an elephant. His mangled body was sighted at around 6 am on Tuesday.
The police and Forest department were soon informed of Lohar's death. His body was recovered and subsequently sent for post-mortem. Meanwhile, local residents demonstrated in front of the forest office in Panighatta demanding necessary action to prevent such incidents.
