Trinamool Youth Congress leader killed in Nadia

Kolkata: A Trinamool Youth Congress leader, identified as Sudhin Shome, was hacked to death by some unknown miscreants at Chakdah in Nadia on Thursday afternoon. It has been alleged that the miscreants were BJP supporters. His son Soumik alleged that Sudhin had not allowed some BJP supporters to put up flags in front of his home a few days ago.

According to Soumik, a few days ago, some BJP supporters were putting up their flags in the area. When they were about to put up the flags in front of their house, Sudhin protested against it. The matter had ended there after brief argument.

Sudhin returned to his home located near 12 number rail gate at Chakdah on Thursday afternoon. After a while, the said BJP supporters allegedly called him outside to talk about something. He went out of his home and was having an interaction with them. All of a sudden, Shome got agitated due to some reason and got involved in an altercation with the BJP supporters.

While the altercation was taking place, some of the accused persons took out some sharp weapons and started stabbing him. Shome had hit the ground immediately after being stabbed once, but the miscreants allegedly continued to stab him.

Though he had tried to save himself, Shome was helpless as he was outnumbered. After a while, the miscreants left Shome on the road, who was bleeding profusely.

After the miscreants left, Shome lay unconscious on the road for some time. After a few minutes, locals rushed him to Chakdah State General Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police was informed immediately. Though sleuths have started probing the matter to track down the accused persons, no one has been arrested till Friday.

Nadia Trinamool district president Gourishankar Dutta said: "Police are investigating the matter. BJP is behind this. Those who work for the people are being targeted." BJP has refused to accept the allegations. As soon as the news of the incident spread, people in Nadia became panic-stricken and agitated as Shome, being a TMC youth leader, was quite popular in the area.

It may be recalled that MLA Krishnagunj Satyajit Biswas was shot dead while attending a Saraswati Puja inauguration programme on February 9. Several persons, including a BJP supporter identified as Abhijit Pundari, were arrested for allegedly killing Biswas.
