Trinamool hands out food packets to needy in Indo-Bangla border area

BALURGHAT: With the aim to stand beside poor and helpless people residing in extreme India-Bangladesh border areas of South Dinajpur, district Trinamool Congress led by the party chief Arpita Ghosh has started distributing food packets to them since the lockdown came into force.

Each packet contains rice, potato, pulse and other essential items. According to a party source, the food packets have already been distributed over 100 families and will continue doing so during the ongoing lockdown period. The food packets were distributed to the underprivileged of Hili, Balurghat, Kumarganj and Tapan blocks maintaining social distancing norms which is a must to contain the spread of Coronavirus.

District party Chief Arpita Ghosh said, "We have started helping the poor residing in border villages with the food packets so that they are not inconvenienced because of the lockdown. In the time of hardship, our party has come forward to provide food to the poor and underprivileged and we will run the system this way till the lockdown gets over."

Ghosh also explained to the people the importance of maintaining social distancing in restricting the spread of the deadly virus. She has been maintaining the same protocol. She assured everyone living in border villages that there would be no dearth in the supply of essential commodities by her party and asked people to follow the rules prescribed by the government.

Meanwhile, the district administration had earlier sealed the Indo-Bangla border completely from April 10 and travel across the border check post has been stopped till April 30 to fight with Covid-19. All entry points have been sealed too. All visas for both Indians and Bangladeshis will remain cancelled till the lockdown gets over and no citizen of both countries will be given permission to cross the border.
