Transport dept starts vessel disinfection drive in several areas
Kolkata: The state Transport department has started a vessel disinfection drive at Howrah, Fairlie Place, Millennium Park, Belur, Dakshineswar, Bagbazar, Kutighat, Cossipore and Ratanbabur Ghat, in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak.
"We are trying to ensure that public transportation is as safe as possible," said Rajanvir Singh Kapur, managing director of West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC).
While cleaning with phenyl and Dettol is being done at Millennium Park, spray cleaning is being done at Howrah and Fairlie Place. Chief Engineer, Marine, Arup Dutta is overseeing the disinfection operations under WBTC. On March 13, the state Transport department had launched a drive to disinfect all its buses on a regular basis. The decision comes after the total number of positive cases of novel Coronavirus in India reached 74 and Delhi government declared it an epidemic on Thursday.
Under the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the state Transport department is taking precautionary measures at several levels, especially in the public transport system. To deal with this situation, all the buses and Metros are being cleaned with disinfectants.
