Traffic dept forms insurance policy: Compensation up to Rs 6 lakh for damages to any vehicle during bandh
Kolkata: In a bid to ensure that people take out their vehicles fearlessly on the day of bandh, the state Transport department has gone for a comprehensive insurance policy for all motor vehicles, to give a compensation of maximum Rs 6 lakh, in case of any damage caused to the same on the day of the bandh.
The step has been taken besides making elaborate arrangements to ensure that people do not face any difficulty in reaching their destinations on September 26, the day on which BJP has called a 12 hour bandh.
It may be mentioned that the maximum reimbursement amount was Rs 75,000 for a vehicle, when the insurance policy was introduced for the first time, when Congress had called an all-India bandh on September 10.
The state Transport department will also take necessary steps if any bus, mini-bus or other public transport vehicles do not operate all of a sudden on September 26. Steps will also be taken if any vehicle is found suddenly going off road on the day of the bandh, after operating normally on September 25. Suvendu Adhikari, the state Transport minister, held a meeting in this connection and announced that additional buses will be made operational on the day of bandh. At the same time, there will be additional ferry services as well.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed to take all necessary steps so that everything remains normal on the day the bandh has been called by BJP.
Following her direction, the state Transport department has made elaborate arrangements and the public facilities will be in place from early morning itself, like any other day.
The additional buses will be plying from 5 am in the morning and the police will also be maintaining vigil so that no untoward incident takes place and people reach their destinations without facing any trouble.
