TMC worker killed in Jagatballavpur
Kolkata: A 45-year-old Trinamool Congress worker was killed at Jagatballavpur in Howrah. He was missing from Thursday night and his body was found with several injury marks beside a waterbody on Friday morning.
Trinamool Congress workers in the area and his family members alleged that he was killed, allegedly by some BJP workers. They also lodged complaint against 18 people with the local police station.
A police officer said that the victim, Kartik Dhaki, went missing on Thursday night, after he went out to meet someone. His family members initiated a search for him as he didn't return even at late night. But they couldn't find him out.
Some local people saw the victim's body near the waterbody early in the morning and informed his family members. The police were also informed.
The police sent the body for an autopsy and initiated a probe in this connection. Local people staged a demonstration protesting against the murder and also demanded arrest of the people involved in the incident as early as possible.
Senior police officers went to the spot and spoke to the local people. They came to know that the victim was also attacked ahead of the Panchayat election.
Police said that there were several injury marks all over his body. After preliminary investigation, the police feel that he was beaten up till he fell unconscious. The attackers then hit him on his head to ensure his death. The place where his body was found was cordoned off and police have collected samples to carry on with the investigation.
