Kolkata: The women's wing of Trinamool Congress will organise a rally in the city on the birthday of BR Ambedkar on Saturday, to protest against unconstitutional activities in the country.
Trinamool Congress will observe the birthday of the architect of the country's Constitution across the state and at the same time, a rally will be organised in Kolkata, protesting against the gruesome rape and murder of an 8-year-old Kathua girl in Jammu and Kashmir and other incidents which are taking place by going against the Constitution.
The rally will also be held to protest against BJP, which is trying to shield such crimes.
The rally in Kolkata will be held from the statue of BR Ambedkar and it will end at the statue of Gandhiji.
Chandrima Bhattacharya, president of the women's wing of Trinamool Congress, said: "Trinamool Congress workers will observe the birthday of the architect of the Constitution of our country, BR Ambedkar, across the state."
She said that at the same time, there will be a rally in the city on Saturday, protesting against different unconstitutional activities which are taking place in the country. "The rally will start at 3.30 pm from the statue of BR Ambedkar and it will end at the statue of Gandhiji, who is the symbol of peace, harmony and equality," she added.
Bhattacharya said: "There have been repeated incidents in the country that have left a deep mark on the society. We are ashamed by the gruesome incident in which an 8-year-old girl was murdered after being tortured. We are condemning the incident and BJP is trying to hide such an incident. They are giving shelter to those behind the incident, when the entire country has stood against it. We have also seen what has taken place in Uttar Pradesh. There, a girl had attempted self-immolation in front of the house of the Chief Minister, after failing to bear torture. Later, it was found that her father was killed and he had died in police custody."
She further said that the rally in the city will be held at such a time that it doesn't cause inconvenience to people, as there is also an IPL match scheduled to be held in Kolkata on that day.
