TMC takes out rally in Keshiari against death of businessman
Kolkata: Coming down heavily on BJP, Trinamool Congress state president Subrata Bakshi said that the people of Bengal will not tolerate the politics of violence.
Bakshi, along with party MP Manas Bhuniya, took part in the rally organised by the party in Keshiari in West Midnapore, where a businessman was shot dead by some unknown miscreants on Wednesday evening. No one has been arrested in this connection so far.
The body of the businessman, Bihuranjan Das, who was a Trinamool sympathiser, was placed on a truck decked with flowers and the party flag. Party workers and leaders took part in a procession and took his mortal remains for cremation.
Bakshi said: "The people of Bengal are against any kind of violence. They have seen violence for more than three decades and finally ousted the party that had unleashed a reign of terror."
He said the politics of violence practiced by state BJP president Dilip Ghosh, will be discarded by people. "BJP must understand that the political scenario in Bengal is different from Utter Pradesh, Rajasthan or Haryana. In Bengal, people are politically conscious and any kind of arrogance or
highhandedness is not appreciated."
Meanwhile, Mahila Trinamool Congress took out a procession from Moulali to Esplanade, to congratulate the people for foiling the 12-hour bandh called by BJP on Wednesday and protest against the violence unleashed by the part during the bandh.
Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State for Health and state president of Trinamool Mahila Congress, said that by organising the 12-hour bandh on the birthday of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, the party has actually "insulted him."
During the bandh, BJP had resorted to violence. Government buses were set on fire and vandalised. The BJP workers also tried to force some shop keepers to pull their shutters down. "Everywhere in the state the party is trying to create trouble as it thinks that by doing so, it will be able to oust Trinamool. But they are living in a fool's paradise. In Bengal, people do not accept violence and they are tired of bandhs and loss of man days. They have given BJP a befitting reply by foiling the bandh."
She alleged that BJP has insulted women throughout the country. "The Centre has introduced the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" scheme and yet, BJP is "insulting the betis throughout the country."
