TMC leader's murder: Prime accused arrested in Sashan
Kolkata: The district police of North 24-Parganas have arrested another person in connection with the murder of a Trinamool Congress leader whose body was found inside a septic tank of a factory in Madhyamgram on July 29.
After conducting a probe the police have arrested the main accused, Surajit Patra, from the Bada area of Sashan in North 24-Parganas on Friday morning.
Police had earlier arrested other persons in this connection. Police said that Patra is the key accused who had carried out the murder after the victim opposed him from looting iron rods which were kept inside the factory.
It may be mentioned here that the body of the victim Sudhir Das (52), a local Trinamool Congress leader, was found dead inside the septic tank with several injures on
his body. He used to work as the security guard of the factory.
After starting an investigation in this regard, police arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the incident. Police went through the CCTV footages and identified the main accused, who had gone into the factory with his face covered with a piece of cloth.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused had entered the factory with an intention to loot iron rods. The incident turned ugly when the victim, who was posted as the security guard, opposed his attempt.
Police said that the accused had hit the victim on his head with an iron rod, as a result of which the victim received grievous injuries. Police also suspect that the body was later dumped into the septic tank.
