A Trinamool Congress leader was threatened on Tuesday for raising his voice against illegal activities at Panchla in Howrah.
Police said that some crude bombs and a letter containing threat message for Trinamool Congress leader Seikh Mujibar Rahaman was found just outside the gate of his house.
He lodged a complaint with the police. Based on his complaint, the police initiated a probe in this connection.
Police spoke to the leader and other members of his family who found the bombs and a letter written with red ink outside the house soon after opening its main gate. All members of the house were traumatised and they contacted the police. The police went to the spot and removed the bombs. The police found that Rahaman has been threatened in the letter saying that he would face dire consequences if he continues to protest against certain incidents as he was doing for the past two to three weeks.
Rahaman alleged that he had protested against the illegal activities that
were taking place in the area. The police too suspect that Tuesday morning's incident was an outcome of his protest against such activities.
The police spoke to some of the local youth to identify the accused. A local resident told to the police that they heard someone moving around their house in the wee hours. But they had not suspected that such a thing was going to happen. They didn't come out of their house thinking that someone might be going for their work.
