TMC leader shot dead

A Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants triggering tension among the local residents.
The incident occurred at the Dawaguri area of Cooch Behar on Wednesday morning. The victim, Gautam Sarkar was standing near a local market when two youth came on a motorcycle. One of the accused took out a gun and shot him on his head from point blank range.
The locals could not stop them as they were carrying firearms. The miscreants fled the spot immediately after the incident. After being informed the police reached the spot and took Sarkar to a nearby hospital. The doctors in the hospital declared the him brought dead.
The local stall owners closed their shutters as tension ran high among the local business following the incident. According to the preliminary investigation police suspect an old rivalry might have led to the murder.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the miscreants had their faces covered. Before anybody could realise anything the miscreants shot the victim and fled the spot. The district Trinamool Congress leaders alleged that it might be an attempt to weaken the party's organisation as the victim was instrumental in strengthening the organisation of the party in the area.
