TMC leader murdered by local goons in Birbhum

Kolkata: Sagar Sheikh, a Trinamool Congress leader, was brutally murdered by unknown miscreants at Kirnahar village in Birbhum on Tuesday morning.

Police have started an investigation. No one has been arrested yet. Anubrata Mondol, Trinamool Congress Birbhum district president, alleged that goons backed by some local CPI(M) leaders are behind the murder.

He said for quite some time local CPI(M) leaders are trying to create trouble in the area in connivance with the goons. He demanded stringent action against the miscreants involved in the crime.

Sheikh along with his daughter were returning home on a motorcycle when some criminals with faces covered stopped them. They hurled bombs at Sheikh who fell from the two wheeler. They fired him from a close range and escaped.

Alerted by the alarm raised by his daughter, locals came to the spot and found Sheikh lying on the road in a pool of blood. They took him to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Senior police officers went to the village and began investigation. The miscreants are yet to be arrested. Police officers spoke to the locals. The miscreants had tried to kill Sheikh in 2017.
