TMC holds rally in Assembly against Suvendu's 'don't touch me' remark
kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday held a protest rally inside the premises of the state Assembly holding placards ridiculing Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari's purported "don't touch my body" remark.
A video has gone viral on social media in which Adhikari was heard telling a woman police official, "Don't touch my body. You are a lady, I am male." He made the comments while he was being detained amid 'Nabanna Abhiyan' of the BJP held on Tuesday.
After the end of the question-answer session at the Assembly, BJP led by Adhikari wanted to bring an adjournment motion on the issue of the alleged recruitment scam which Speaker Biman Banerjee disallowed on the ground of the matter being sub-judice. Soon after the refusal, the BJP MLAs sported posters alleging the involvement of a section of TMC leaders in a recruitment scam.
Taking a dig at Adhikari, the TMC staged a protest, led by minister Chandrima Bhattacharjee, with placards reading, "Suvendu: Don't touch my body I am male." Another placard read, "Modi Ji: Entire India is on sale. Nirmala Tai: All our ideas are going to fail."
The sloganeering continued for about 10 minutes following which the BJP staged a workout and their MLAs sat at the lobby shouting slogans. The TMC on the other hand held a rally inside the premises.
Parliamentary Affairs minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay said: "The BJP has been trying to disrupt the smooth proceedings of the Assembly by resorting to similar practices in the Assembly. They are not ready for discussions. We have not seen such things before in the Assembly."
