TMC gearing up to make Abhishek's April 2 rally a grand success

Trinamool Congress' South 24 Parganas unit is gearing up to make the meeting which is to be addressed by party's MP Abhishek Banerjee, a grand success.

Banerjee will address a rally on April 2. Mayor Sovan Chatterjee who is the president of South 24 Parganas unit of the party, held a meeting with leaders and workers on March 3. This will be Banerjee's first meeting since October 2016 when he met with a road accident and was recuperating. Party leaders of South 24 Parganas said the meeting will be held in Diamond Harbour, Banerjee's Lok Sabha constituency. Sovan Chatterjee has urged leaders and workers to give up infighting and work together.

Banerjee's visit to Trinmool Bhavan on March 4 has infused great enthusiasm among the young workers of the party. Workers from the neighbouring districts were present to welcome him to the party office. Banerjee will attend the Lok Sabha session on March 14. From April, Banerjee will start touring the districts. On April 6, he will address a rally in Barasat. This will be followed by a meeting at Sonamukhi in Bankura and two meetings in Purulia on April 17 and 18.

Party insiders said that his presence in the party before the Panchayat election scheduled to be held in 2018 is very important. CPI(M) and Congress are likely to fight jointly in the Panchayat election. CPI(M) is trying for a collaboration with BJP secretly. To counter this, the organisational strength of Trinamool needs to be improved in the rural areas and infighting needs to be ironed out.

Banerjee urged party workers present at Trinamool Bhavan to put up united fight. He said he is happy that in his absence the young workers had organised rallies and meetings against the ban of high value notes by Narendra Modi.

It may be mentioned that Banerjee is leading the committee that has been set up to get in touch with party workers and leaders who have either become defunct or joined other parties and bring them back to party's fold.
