Three youths from Bengal killed in Assam & Gujarat
Motive behind murder in both the cases is yet to be confirmed by the police
Kolkata: Two youths from East Midnapore who went to Assam as daily wage labourers were brutally murdered while another youth from East Burdwan was hacked to death in Gujarat in a separate incident.
The motive behind the murder in both the cases is yet to be confirmed by the police. It has been learnt that a team or workers had gone to Assam from Panskura area of East Midnapore a few months ago. They had joined a furniture manufacturing factory at Tinsukia in Assam as labourers.
The two victims were found by local residents with their throat slit near their workplace on Saturday. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where the duo was declared brought dead. One of the victims has been identified as Hamidul Islam (27), while the identity of the other is yet to be divulged by the state police.
The victims used to stay in a rented house close to their workplace. The unidentified miscreants attacked them when they were returning home from the factory on Saturday evening.
It has been stated that the duo had got involved in a quarrel with some local people over distribution of money. Assam Police suspect that the quarrel might have led to the death of the labourers.
They have started a detailed probe into the incident. They are also investigating to know if there is any other angle to the crime.
Police came to know that the duo was stopped by a gang of miscreants and before they realised anything, the accused beat them up and slit their throats with a sharp weapon.
The miscreants immediately fled from the spot before the local residents arrived. Assam Police subsequently informed East Midnapore Police about the incident on Sunday morning.
The bodies will be brought back to the state after postmortem is carried out. Tinsukia Police have started interrogating other workers of the factory and also those who used to live with the victims in the rented house.
It may be mentioned here that last year, five Bengal residents were killed in Assam after the NRC issue came to the fore. This had triggered a fear among other Bengalis staying there and also a political slugfest between the two states.
In a similar incident, another youth from East Burdwan's Jamalpur was hacked to death in Gujarat's Surat. A resident of Sahapur village in Jamalpur, Samsuddin Ali Seikh had moved to Gujarat two years ago and started working there in a factory.
He used to stay at Somakanji area. He was going to his work-
place on a bicycle when some miscreants attacked him with a sharp weapon.
The local people spotted him lying in a pool of blood on the side of the road and took him to a hospital. The victim later succumbed to his injuries.
