Three rape accused chargesheeted

BALURGHAT: Police have produced charge-sheets in court against three persons accused of rape and murder of a woman in Gangarampur.

The incident occurred on September 7. The body of an unidentified semi-naked young lady was recovered from Gangarampur.

Police investigation and medical report indicate that the lady was raped before murder. The identity of the deceased was, however, disclosed after three days by the family members. A written complaint was also lodged with police.

After receiving the complaint, police initiated a probe and nabbed Majedur Rahman alias Pintu Sarkar (31), Amit Paul alias Dipankar Paul (24) and Sujan Haldar (22). Police said Majadur and Sujan hail from Gangarampur while Amit resides in Pabna district from neighbouring Bangladesh.

Specific charges including 302/315/201 and 14A (b) of IPC were being brought by police against the accused after 86 days of the incident. A police source said the charge was framed against the trio at Gangarampur sub-divisional court on December 16.
