Three-member committee to look into Sanjay Roy's death; police mull quizzing Rupali Basu

Police have prepared a list of doctors and employees of Apollo Gleneagles who will be grilled regarding the death of 30-year-old Sanjay Roy.

Police are contemplating summoning the former eastern zone's CEO of Apollo Gleneagles Rupali Basu, to interrogate her in connection with the death of Sanjay Roy.

This comes on the day when state Health Secretary Rajendra Shukla said the six-member inquiry committee found that the delay in releasing Roy till his bills were cleared, medical negligence and tampering of his treatment-related documents were the reasons behind the 30-year-old man's death.

The inquiry committee was formed by the state Health department to probe into the death of the Hooghly resident.

Shukla held a press conference after submitting the report containing findings of the committee to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

He further said that since the inquiry committee could not pinpoint the person(s) responsible for the incident's leading to Roy's death, a three-member committee comprising Prof Madhusudhan Banerjee, Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy and gastroenterologist Prof G Dhali has been formed.

The three-member-committee will submit its report in the next three days. After the three-member committee goes through the inquiry report and reveals its conclusions, the police would also summon Rupali Basu for interrogation.

Police have prepared a list of doctors and employees of Apollo Gleneagles who will be grilled regarding Roy's death.

After grilling some of the doctors and employees, police came to know that they did whatever they were directed to do by top officials of the private hospitals.

Basu was the head of the eastern zone when Roy fell victim to the step-motherly attitude of the private hospital. Police will now summon her to take her statement. They have also recorded the statement of the doctors and employees.

If needed, Basu would also be questioned in front of other employees and doctors who claimed that they had acted as per the direction of higher authorities.

Shukla said that the Health department was also seeking legal aide to be sure as to what action should be taken against the person(s) found guilty by the inquiry committee.
