Thorough disinfection drive at Nabanna after son of senior bureaucrat tests positive
Kolkata: In a preventive measure to check the spread of Coronavirus, a thorough disinfection drive was carried out at the state secretariat, Nabanna.
According to a section of officials at the state secretariat, since morning the disinfection work was carried out in all the floors. It was carried out in the elevators at Nabanna too. Workers in four teams carried out the disinfection work.
This comes a day after the matter came to light that an 18-year-old son of a senior bureaucrat came to Kolkata from England after being affected with the disease and the bureaucrat had visited Nabanna on Monday. The officer of the state Home and Hills Affairs department has her office at Writers' Buildings. She also has another office on the fifth floor of Nabanna where she had spent some time before holding a meeting with senior bureaucrats of her department.
All sorts of precautionary measures have been taken at the state secretariat and all the state government offices to check the spread of the disease. It has been made mandatory to wash hands using sanitiser before entering their offices.
All sorts of precautionary measures have also been taken at Writers' Buildings as well. Till Wednesday morning, around 6,000 masks were distributed from the dispensary at Nabanna. Several employees also went to the dispensary to get their health checked as well.
With the increase in demand for masks with the outbreak of COVID-19, the minister of state for state MSME department Swapan Debnath directed the officials of Tantuja and Bangashree to take steps to manufacture masks.
Initially, it has been decided to manufacture around 1 lakh masks. The same will be made available for common people through the outlets of Tantuja. According to an official of the department, the initiative will help in meeting the increase in demand for the same.
