Teacher makes Durga idol on matchstick

BALURGHAT: With the aim to enlist her name in the Guinness Book of World Records, a lady school teacher in Balurghat has made a tiny Durga Idol on a wooden matchstick this year. Soma Mukherjee, the teacher is confident that her creation will achieve an International recognition to get an entry in Guinness Book of World Records.

"Perhaps I have made the world's smallest Durga Idol by preparing it on the matchstick. Its measurement is only 0.4 cm. I am a school teacher and I have expressed my emotions through my art of creation," she said.

Mukherjee used to prepare a tiny Durga Idol every year to receive recognition from International level. This year she has made the Idol on a wooden matchstick.

"It takes around six months to complete the total procedure. Despite Debi Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik, Ganesh and their mounts (bahan) are also with her. I am trying hard to enlist my name in the Limca Book of Records," she said. Notably, Mukherjee around three years ago had made a small Durga Idol too. Seeing her creation, her husband

and other family members had started inspiring her to create the smallest Idol ever prepared by anyone. "Since then I have set a target to prepare the tiniest Idol. All of my family members have inspired me a lot to achieve my mission. I hope

soon I can get the recognition from International level," she added.
