Tamang impersonators arrested

Darjeeling: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police got a major breakthrough in an extortion racket case with the arrest of two persons. Believed to be the masterminds, they used to impersonate Binay Tamang, GTA chairman and extort money. Dipesh Trikhatri and Rahul Trikhatri were arrested from Baghajatin Colony, Pradhan Nagar, Siliguri on Friday in this connection. They were produced at the ACJM Court, Siliguri, on Saturday and remanded to five days of police custody. "For the past two months, we have been receiving complaints of impersonation, cheating and extortion. We got a major breakthrough with the arrest of the duo. They used to run an extortion racket along with a few locals," stated Gaurav Lal, DCP, Siliguri Metropolitan Police. The two originally hail from Thakurbari area of Kalimpong but had shifted base to Pradhan Nagar in Siliguri.
