Sweeper doubles up as technician at Burdwan nursing home, held
Kolkata: Police arrested a sweeper, who was allegedly engaged as a technician by Life Line Nursing home Burdwan.
The private nursing had been accused of smuggling infants.
On the basis of a specific complaint, the district police conducted a detailed probe into the incident and arrested Sailen Roy, a sweeper who had been used as a technician by nursing home authorities.
The incident triggered tension in the district after allegation of infant smuggling surfaced against the nursing home.
Some people alleged that new born infants were sold to an outside customer, who was admitted to the hospital as a patient.
During the investigation police came to know that Roy, who studied up to Class VIII, was engaged to work inside the operation theatre.
He allegedly used to put oxygen mask on the patients and extract blood sample
from the patients for various tests.
The investigating officers have already seized various documents of the nursing home including the register.
According to the district administration, a stern action may be taken against the nursing home authorities in the course of the investigation.
