Suvendu raises slogan of 'Bhag BJP Bhag', calls for ouster of saffron party

Says he will quit politics if Trinamool Congress doesn’t win in Kanthi with a margin of 2.5 lakh votes

Kolkata: State Transport and Environment minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday gave the call for ouster of BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, raising the slogan of Bhag BJP Bhag.

Trinamool Congress has organised a political meeting at Kanthi in East Midnapore, at the same venue where BJP President Amit Shah had held a rally on January 29.

"We had won with a margin of 2.3 lakh votes in the Lok Sabha election in 2014. I declare that Trinamool Congress will win here with a margin of 2.5 lakh votes, else I will quit politics," Adhikari said in a challenge to the BJP leadership, for trying to woo voters by bringing Shah to address a rally.

Ridiculing the feeble attendance at Shah's rally, he said that BJP had brought in people from neighbouring states like Odisha and Jharkhand and even from districts like Howrah, but could manage an attendance of only 14,000 people.

"We had asked people from only Kanthi and Egra to come at the rally. The gathering today (Sunday) has ensured that the 'Bharatiya Janjal Party' will not have the courage to hold any further rally at this place," he said.

He reiterated that Kanthi has always been a strong bastion of Trinamool Congress for many decades. "CPI(M) had brought in Jyoti Basu to address a meeting here in 1990, while Congress had brought former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi in an effort to swing votes, but all efforts proved futile. The people of Kanthi will continue to extend their support to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been the architect of all-round development in the state, with a slew of people-friendly schemes," Adhikari added. Alleging that BJP-backed goons had injured two Trinamool supporters in Shah's rally, Adhikari said that Newton's third law will be applied if there is any more attack on Trinamool supporters in Kanthi.

"Newton's third law states: To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It will be applied if there is any attack on Trinamool Congress again," he maintained.

It may be mentioned that 11 BJP supporters were arrested by police for violence, soon after Shah's rally.
