Students organise drama on road safety in Balurghat
BALURGHAT: The students of a Balurghat-based private English medium school organised a short span 'street drama' in association with the police at Balurghat public bus stand on Friday afternoon to campaign on 'Safe Drive Save Life'.
Around 20 students of Balurghat Atreyee DAV Public School took part in the programme that started at 4 pm and continued for 30 minutes.
The students acted in the drama that was based on the theme of road safety awareness. They spread the message that everyone should follow the norms of safe journey while going outside for their daily activities.
"The principal objective of projecting the drama in public is to make them aware by the safety norms of a safe journey. I took part a crucial role in the drama. We have tried to spread a social message. The state government and police both have taken numerous steps for a safe and secure journey," said a student of Class IX, Soumik Bhattacharjee. Notably, the 'Safe Drive Save Life' slogan started functioning in Kolkata in 2016. In South Dinajpur, the number of accidents has decreased after 2016. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Dhiman Mitra, who was present at the event, said: "We have to make it a success in the district. Despite our drives to curb road accidents, some people are still into rash driving. We will conduct a meeting with the bus and truck drivers soon asking them to maintain speed limit particularly on the onset of winter as the visibility is low due to fog."
Officer-in-Charge (traffic) of Balurghat, Utpal Chatterjee along with other officials were present at the event.
