Students of Balurghat Girls' College stage protest against hostel admin
BALURGHAT: Around 57 students residing in Balurghat Girls' College hostel staged a demonstration on Thursday raising finger towards the hostel superintendent for serving low quality food over the past couple of months.
Agitated students had also locked the main gate of the college demanding immediate solution to the problem. The students alleged they had appealed to the acting hostel superintendent, Bibha Karmakar, many a times asking to maintain the quality of food served but she had not paid any attention. Besides, she started misbehaving with the students when the latter asked her to provide nutritious food. On Wednesday, all of the boarders refused to take dinner and threatened for continuous agitation if their demand is not met.
"The hostel superintendent used to misbehave with us. The quality of food that is being served to us is the worst. We urged her to improve the situation but our demands have been unattended. We have no other option left but to raise our hands against the present scenario. We also demand for a suitable replacement of the present superintendent," the students said in a chorus before media. The agitated students have also charged her of extorting money from them in the name of Durga Puja subscription. According to a college source, the students have to pay Rs 750 per month for food and lodging. Hostel superintendent, Bibha Karmakar, has denied the charges brought against her by the students.
The students have finally lifted the agitation after getting positive assurance from the college authorities to look into the matter seriously and normalcy was restored.
