Storm, thundershowers in South Bengal till May 2: MeT

Kolkata: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore on Tuesday predicted storm and thundershower in various parts of South Bengal up to May 2.

The MeT office has attributed the cause of rain to a recent low pressure trough formed over Bay of Bengal. The prediction says that various South Bengal districts will receive intermittent rainfall along with storm with winds measuring around 50-60 km per hour.

The city and various South Bengal districts received rainfall on Tuesday along with gusty wind in many places. Multiple spells of rainfall have lowered the temperature, bringing relief to the city-dwellers from the summer heat.

An intermittent shower hit some parts of North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Nadia, Howrah, Hooghly and Kolkata in the morning. The rain, however, did not last for a long time.

"A low pressure trough has formed over Bay of Bengal as a result of which there has been an incursion of moisture into the air. It may contribute to more rainfall in various South Bengal districts in the next few days. Winds measuring around 50-60 km/h may be sweeping through various parts of South Bengal, particularly in the evening hours. The situation may continue till May 2, following which the weather condition will improve," a weather official said.

A strong wind will be sweeping through North Bengal as well in the next 48 hours. For the past few days the people in the city and South Bengal districts have been witnessing hot and humid temperature.

The districts like Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, West Midnapore, East Midnapore, North 24-Parganas and South 24-Parganas may witness more rainfall and thundershower, the prediction says.
