Stir against Xavier's model in JU

Students of JU agitated on Friday in front of Aurobindo Bhavan, demanding that the student union elections should be held in the same manner as it is being held over the years. The agitation came in the wake of the state government's deciding to adopt the Xavier's model of a student council instead of a student's union.

The matter was discussed in the meeting of the Executive Committee (EC), the decision making body of the university but no solution could be reached. "Union elections are being held in this university for so many years and there has been no problems related to it. The government should adopt the JU model," Gourav Masanta, an agitating student.
