STF seizes fake notes worth Rs 10 lakh, two arrested
Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police has apprehended two persons and seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth Rs 10 lakh. All the notes were of Rs 2,000 denomination.
Sources informed that police got a tip about the duo identified as Golam Rabbani alias Rabbani Shaikh and Alamin Shaikh from FICN racketeer Sirazul Shaikh, who was arrested a few months ago with approximately Rs 5 lakh, from the Chandni Chowk area.
Following up on this, sleuths were able to gather some information and came to know that Rabbani and Alamin would come to the city with a huge amount of FICN. On Monday afternoon, police got information that the duo had arrived and would hand over the FICN to someone.
Immediately, sleuths traced them in the Narkeldanga area and arrested the duo at around 9 pm on Monday. During a search and seizure procedure, sleuths seized 250 fake notes of Rs 2,000 denomination.
In another incident, the STF arrested two persons for allegedly carrying 578 kg ganja in a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV), along with some other goods. Acting on a tip, sleuths intercepted the HGV on K P Singhee Road in Chitpore in the afternoon.
While searching the HGV, police found the ganja concealed by other goods. Later, police arrested two persons identified as Amit Santra and Tapas Mol alias Nadu, as they failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for carrying ganja on their HGV. Both of them are residents of Kalna in East Burdwan.
The HGV, licence of the driver and documents of the vehicle were seized. A case has been registered under sections of The Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
