STF nabs two, seizes heroin worth Rs 8 cr
Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police has nabbed two narcotics dealers from Narkeldanga area on Tuesday morning. The duo was carrying a huge quantity of heroin.
According to STF officials, police got a tip on Tuesday morning that a few persons had come to Kolkata with a huge quantity of narcotics. The source also stated that
they would avail Narkeldanga Main Road to reach their destination.
Working on the information, police were waiting in Narkeldanga area in the afternoon. At around 4:45 pm, police spotted a car bearing registration number of Assam, which triggered suspicion among the STF officials.
The car was intercepted immediately and police detained the two passengers of the car, including the driver. During search, police found some packets which looked suspicious. They were taken to STF facility and checked again. Police subsequently found more than two kg heroin concealed inside the car.
Following the seizure, the duo identified as Joygopal Debnath and Hussain Ahmed of Tinsukia in Assam were arrested. During interrogation, it was found that they had come to Kolkata to hand over the consignment, which was procured from Assam. The seized heroin is worth approximately Rs 8 crore.
In a separate incident, three persons have been arrested by the Narcotics Cell of Kolkata Police's Detective Department on Monday night from Hastings area, with a huge quantity of ganja. Acting on a tip, police intercepted the accused and seized more than 21 kg ganja from them.
