STF nabs two drug peddlers, seizes 9 packets of 'yaba' tablets
Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police has nabbed two persons and seized nine packets of Amphetamine, commonly known as 'yaba', in tablet form. The duo was produced before the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Court in Bichar Bhavan and has been remanded to police custody till August 8.
According to police, on Thursday afternoon STF sleuths got hold of information that a few drug peddlers were coming to the city with a huge quantity of some kind of narcotic in a car.
A team from the STF soon went to a place on Basanti Highway under the jurisdiction of Pragati Maidan police station and waited for the car. After almost an hour, the target car was seen. As soon as the car was seen coming, police blocked the way with their vehicles.
After the car was intercepted, sleuths searched the car and found 1,00,000 yaba tablets weighing about 10 kg. The two persons who were in the car, identified as Ripon Hossain alias Ebrahim Hossain of Suti and Ripon Shaikh of Raghunathganj in Murshidabad, were detained.
The duo, along with the yaba tablets were brought to an STF facility. Later, the two accused persons were arrested.
Since the last few months, STF has nabbed several drug peddlers who used to supply drugs and narcotics to students of several eminent educational institutions across the city.
Keeping the past scenarios in mind, STF has already stepped up its vigil across the city to prevent the use of such substances.
